In 1927 Charlotte Perriand joined the famous design studio of Le Corbusier. Between 1927 and 1929 they worked on the chairs that became one of the signature designs of the Bauhaus movement.
The LC2 club armchair showcased their idea of exposing the tubular steel frame, for which Periand had become famous, by putting it outside the leather cushions.
In Perriands words they had achieved the 'confrontation', between new industrial materials such as tubular steel and natural materials such as cowhide, they were seeking.
A revolutionary tactic that transformed a traditional chair-type into a modern object that was to become a design classic.
