Home > about & advice > Designers & Manufacturers > Ansbacher , Samuel

Samuel Ansbacher - born 1971 in Manchester. Studied Cabinet Making and Furniture Design at Manchester University.

Questions we posed to Samuel Ansbacher for the Top Drawer Summer Show:

How would you describe your design style?
Simplicity and practicality in form, very much in keeping with the Bauhaus tradition.

What inspired you to design the Slim Jim?
Taking a traditional mirrored cabinet and elongating it to the limits of practicality.

Where or what do you draw inspiration from?
From many sources ranging from automotive and aerospace engineering to architectural forms.

Who is your favourite designer or designers?
I don't really have a favourite designer. Each designer and their designs inspires me in a different way. Designers whose work I admire include Marcel Breuer, Arne Jacobsen, Charles and Ray Eames, Ron Arad and Phillipe Starke - to name but few!
